Super Bowl Poll

In 2 days it's the Super Bowl! This year the Colts and the Saints battle each other. Jasmine and Belle, our features editors, went around asking kids who they wanted to win the Super Bowl. They asked 50 kids. 21 said the Colts would win. 29 said the Saints would win. (Dory) Saints! (Hammy) Colts! (Dory) Saints are going to win! (Hammy) No, Colts are going to win! (both) Let's just wait until Sunday to see what happens.

Kids Clamor for Clay!

This week we asked some of the kids about the clay class; most of them said it was fun. Brendon and Anthony from Mrs. Luetchford's 1st grade class said that it is fun! Isaiah from Mrs. Patterson/Engelbrecht's 3rd grade class said that it was a fun place to be. Daeleah from Mrs. Duther's class said that it was awesome. They are making necklaces this week. They already made the beads for them and now they are making the medallion. Hope you kids have a fun time!

Let the Music Flow!!!

Last week on Friday, a brass quintet came and visited the fourth grade. There were two trumpets, one bass trombone and one trombone. We had one of our reporters on the spot with one of the quintet players. (video) Great report! Good jams, man!

The Theft, DON'T STEAL!

Did you know that there have been things stolen from the Madison staff?   Lots of teachers have had things stolen.   There was a box in the office that had papers in it waiting to be laminated at the beginning of the year, and the whole box was stolen.  There was stolen candy, and there was stolen electronics.  Teachers have been locking their doors when they leave, so that no one can come in and look through their stuff, or take it from them.

Stealing has happened in the past, but it has gotten better.  Why do people take things that don’t belong to them and without asking?  We don’t know why they do it, but they do and sometimes it’s hard to stop them.  Stealing is against the law, you can go to jail for stealing if you are 18 or older.   If you 17 or younger, you can go to juvie. Stealing is bad.  Please do not steal in your lifetime and even if you have stolen something, it’s not too late to be honest and give it back.

We think this is one of those times when it’s important to tell an adult if you know about someone stealing.  Teachers are feeling really bad, and wouldn’t you?

Dig That African Beat!

Third to fifth grade have been doing a percussion class, right here at Madison! We had a few of our reporters go talk to some people from the percussion class about their opinion of the class. They said that the class is fun and they like their teacher, whose name is Chris. They also said that they played Musical Chairs, and when you got out, you had to play a beat. Wow! Sounds fun. Keep up the beat, guys

Speedy Runner

No running in the halls! That's what we tried to tell Captain in fifth grade, but she just wouldn't listen. The Captain is the runner this month. Her job is to get you and me any messages we need at the end of the day. So our under-cover spy-cam operator followed her 'in stealth mode', and this is what we found. (video) Whoa! Slow down, Captain!

How to Write a Play
Mrs. Kelling, one of our west-wing teachers that teaches k-1 grades, had her kids write a silly play. They had to pick two characters, and then make up a plot, or all the events that happen, and where the setting is. The play was an imaginative writing activity. They got to have fun, and learned how to make better and more interesting sentences.
Can You Hear Me????

Many kids got their hearing tested this week. Grades 1, 2, and 5 were tested this time. Kindergarten finished up theirs in October. 3rd and 4th grades are not doing it unless they are new kids. When you get your hearing tested, you go into a sound booth and put on headphones. When you hear a beep, you either put your hand up or press a buzzer. Hope you guys did great!!!

Gymnastics Tactics

This week Madison kids started gymnastics in gym! There is the springboard, the horse, the climbing wall and a balance beam. They are hoping we can fix the parallel bars. We got to see a couple of kids do gymnastics. Take a look. (Video) Wow, you guys are great! Hope you guys had fun!

Mr. Casey's Cursive

This week Mr. Casey, our 3rd grade teacher, is getting back to doing cursive handwriting. They are also doing valentines activities. They have just started comparing and contrasting. Hope you guys have fun!
